 Let's get baking!

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 1 (2¼ tsp) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For the filling:

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup softened margarine

For the frosting:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk (110 degrees) until foamy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients. Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and flour to the bowl of an electric mixer. Mix well until combined.
  3. Add the yeast mixture. Pour the milk/yeast mixture into the bowl and mix well until combined.
  4. Let the dough rise. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to approximately 16 inches by 12 inches.
  6. Prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Assemble the rolls. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  8. Roll up the dough. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough up into a log. Cut the log into 1½ inch slices.
  9. Let the rolls rise again. Place the cut rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 2 hours.
  10. Bake the rolls. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Frost the rolls. While the rolls are still warm, spread generously with vanilla buttercream icing.

To prepare the icing:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

Enjoy your homemade cinnamon rolls! They're the perfect treat for any occasion.
