Making Tiramisu is surprisingly an easy dessert to make. Allowing it to rest in the refrigerator is probably the most difficult, only because you have to wait to enjoy. But this is also the most important step, so that the lady fingers can absorb and soften with all of the delicious flavors from the ingredients.
This is how you create the taste of Italy in your home.

Yields: 6-8 servings Prep time: 30 minutes Chill time: 2 hours (minimum)

Ingredients:

  • About 10-12 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 17 oz (500g) mascarpone cheese
  • 1 ¼ cups (230g) granulated sugar, divided
  • 4 cups cooled coffee (sweetened to taste, if desired)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

Equipment:

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Yolks: In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks with half of the sugar (about ⅔ cup or 115g) using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add Mascarpone: Gradually beat in the mascarpone cheese until smooth and well combined. Set aside in the fridge.
  3. Whip the Whites: In a clean bowl with clean beaters, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar (about ⅔ cup or 115g) on medium-high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  4. Combine Gently: Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture using a spatula, being careful not to deflate the whites. Mix until just combined.
  5. Soak Ladyfingers: Briefly dip the ladyfingers, one at a time, into the cooled coffee, soaking both sides for a few seconds.
  6. Layer in Dish (or Cups):
    • Dish: Spread a thin layer of the cream mixture on the bottom of your dish. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers over the cream. Spread another layer of cream over the ladyfingers. Repeat layers of soaked ladyfingers and cream until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cream on top.
    • Cups: Place a spoonful of cream in the bottom of each cup. Layer with halved or broken soaked ladyfingers and more cream. Repeat until the cups are filled, ending with cream on top.
  7. Dust and Chill: Sprinkle a generous layer of cocoa powder evenly over the top layer of cream.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the tiramisu to set.

Enjoy your easy and delicious homemade Tiramisu!
